Artist Statement

“Viewers need to feel connected when they see my work. My hope, is that the artwork speaks to them or reignites a memory or emotion. I want my art to speak to the emotive state of the viewer and allow them to drown in the colours, shapes and textures, leaving them connected to not only the artwork but more deeply to themselves.”

About

Ben Randall (b. 1975, Sydney Australia) is an interdisciplinary artist and graphic designer. He draws inspiration from modern life, music, nature and human emotions. At the core of his cross-sector creative work is the practice of an intuitive and often a reactionary narrative that examines the removal of thought thus allowing unpredictability into our world.

The freedom to explore dynamic layering, utilising colours and shapes to play in unspoken harmony across the canvas are key markers to how Ben works. There is a gritty approach to his application of mixing paint from the tube onto the canvas, allowing for faith in the process to guide the direction of the artwork.

He would describe himself as an abstract expressionist, using spontaneity to disregard and allow a nonsensical methodology to what transpires on the canvas. There is a true sense of freedom and an almost unconventional colour vocabulary that creates both balance and conflict.

His positivity, compassion and the continual hunger to push preconceived limitations is reflected in all characteristics of his work. Ben is most alive when immersed in the creative process.
